Seven Balloons floating - Just once for the London's Olympics 2012

Hot Air Balloon Festival in Cairns during the London Olympic Games 2012

One year ago today, music drifted across London’s skies from seven hot-air balloons on a Monday July 25th morning to give London residents a melodic wake-up call and celebrate a year to go until the games began.

Here in Queensland Australia, up to 7 balloons fly but the difference is, more than 7 hot air balloons can take off any day of the year.

All the team at Hot Air Balloon Cairns are looking forward to watching the London Olympics with many events finishing just when our balloon tours here end at breakfast time.

The hot air balloons in London took off in quick succession floating across the capital.

The project is the work of artist Luke Jerram’s Sky Orchestra and features a musical score created by Bafta-winning composer Dan Jones.

Mr Jerram described it as ‘a form of acoustic urban art’, adding: ‘The aim is to lift the sleeping public into a space on the edge of sleep and to inspire their imaginations through sound.

‘The balloons create a massive audio landscape. Like whales calling in the ocean, the same sounds may be heard in succession passing from one balloon to another across the sky.’

Hot Air Balloon Cairns will be operating balloon flights every day during the London Olympics.
